Work Life Balance

Thursday, February 4
2:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Careers in golf turf management present challenges in maintaining appropriate balance between work and family life with long unpredictable hours under very stressful mental and physical conditions beyond the control of a superintendent. Not only can this impact family and personal relationships, but most importantly over time it takes a toll on your mental and emotional health. Increasing awareness of the role that our emotions and psychological health play in our lives is beneficial to our personal and professional lives. Many emotional health issues go undiagnosed, and it can be difficult to discern where emotional health issues become problematic. When we lack healthy balance between work and life, it is just a matter of time before the stress leads to poor emotional health and burnout in more ways than one. Participants will learn how to:

• Identify common factors impacting our emotional and mental health

• Preform a self-assessment to identify any problem areas and gauge your current work/life balance

• Prioritize and strategize ways to balance family and work roles leading to increased productivity, and preserving situations where you can ‘bank positive’ time

• Develop skills and techniques to protect and address emotional health, work/life balance needs, and achieve an overall healthier you
