Turfgrass by the numbers

Wednesday, February 3
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Most of us have heard the phrase, “A fool and his money are soon parted”. That is pertinent in turfgrass management because most sound agronomic decisions can be based upon independent university research. However, facility mangers aren’t always trained to interpret scientific terminology and can be coerced into thinking it is all mumbo jumbo. So let’s address some questions that golf course superintendents frequently ask like, “What is the best chemistry to spray for that pest? What is the best method to incorporate it? What is the best way to decrease organic matter? What is the best carrier of that nutrient? “The truth is all of the answers and decisions can be science-based. Participants will receive a brief overview of scientific literacy in relation to turfgrass science to develop that greater sense of understanding confidence in making the right management decisions. Attendees will:

• Understanding scientific terminology

• How to interpret turfgrass research

• Discuss how research can cut waste and save money
