Managing Cool-Season Turfgrass Through Hot and Wet Summer Amid COVID19 Pandemic

Tuesday, February 2
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

This session will use the difficult 2020 season as a case study, focusing specifically on the heat, moisture and humidity challenges that many superintendents faced. Drawing from the successful 8 hour session the speakers have presented for years at GIS, this one hour discussion will get to the heart of the matter quickly, and will provide real-world answers to problems superintendents deal with all the time. After attending this session, turf managers will be able to make better and more informed decisions on watering and syringing, the use of plant growth regulators and other cool-season management techniques. Advanced topics will be covered, including:

• Turfgrass physiological health of cool-season turfgrass suffering from summer decline due to high temperature and humidity.

• Management strategies to mitigate stress and improve recovery of damaged turf

If you struggle with your cool-season turfgrass in 2020, this session might provide you answers on what you can try next, and how you can “raise the bar” on your management program by having a more in-depth understanding of what’s happening inside the turf plants you manage.
