Scott D. Bordner was born in Dakota, Ill., a small farming town 2 hours west of Chicago. He started working on a golf course there at the age of 16. After gaining an associate’s degree from Horry Georgetown Technical College in Myrtle Beach, he diversified his resume by working in five different states with various types of grass and climates. Finishing school was working for Matt Shaffer at Merion Golf Club, where he spent 6 seasons. He left to become a superintendent at RiverCrest Golf Club, outside of Philadelphia. From there he had the opportunity to move back home to Chicago Golf Club in 2012. He accepted a position as superintendent at Union League National, Cape May Courthouse, N.J., in 2019. He has an 8- and 10-year-old that occupy most of his time away from the course.
