Straka earned his BS in Landscape Architecture and Master of Professional Studies in Agriculture – Turfgrass Management and Environmental Golf Course Design Studies from Cornell University. He began his career as a greenskeeper and then as a construction associate for McDonald & Sons, and moved to the design side when he was hired by Hurdzan Fry Golf Course Design. In 2012,
he teamed up with Dana Fry, ASGCA, to launch Dublin, Ohio-based Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, where he continues to serve as Principal with business partner Dana Fry. His design philosophy has always included a focus on the environment, starting with his Masters work at Cornell working on the development of Widow’s Walk Golf Course in Scituate, Massachusetts.
