Gil Hanse

Hanse_Gil Gil is the founder and the President of Hanse Golf Course Design.  Since the firm’s inception in 1993, he has been involved in a hands on capacity with each project that the firm has undertaken.  The firm was founded on the principles of creating an intentionally small design group that takes a personal interest in the design and construction of each course.  Prior to forming Hanse Golf Course Design, Gil received a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University and worked for Tom Doak at Renaissance Golf Design, from 1989 to 1993.  In 1995, Hanse was joined by his design partner, Jim Wagner, and the two have worked together for nearly 25 years, sharing the design responsibilities on all of our projects.  We have been fortunate to have numerous courses of ours ranked in the Top 100 and to have been selected as Architect of the Year several times.

Original Designs – Over the 26 years that the firm has been in existence we have completed, or have under way 22 original designs.  Some of these include: Boston Golf Club, Streamsong Black, Pinehurst Course 4, The Olympic Course in Rio de Janeiro, Castle Stuart Golf Links, Ohoopee Match Club, The Cradle at Pinehurst Resort and our first original design Craighead Links at The Crail Golfing Society in Scotland.  Projects currently under construction include The New Course at Les Bordes in France, PGA Frisco in Texas and CapRock Ranch in Valentine, Nebraska.

Restorations and Renovations – We have built relationships with over 40 clubs providing restoration and renovation services for their courses.  Some of our historic restorations include Merion Golf Club, Winged Foot Golf Club, The Los Angeles Country Club, Fishers Island Club, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, Quaker Ridge Golf Club, The Country Club, Oakland Hills Country Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, Aronimink Golf Club, and Tokyo Golf Club.  Renovation projects include The Vineyard Golf Club, Doral Resort, and TPC Boston.
