Doug Soldat, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Soil Science. He earned both his bachelors and masters degrees in soil science at the University of Wisconsin and Ph.D. in horticulture at Cornell University. He focuses on Turfgrass, urban soils, nutrient management, water resources, soil testing and landscape irrigation. Current research projects include: evaluation of use of biosolids for improving the economics and environmental sustainability of sod production, analysis of the uptake and utilization of fall-applied nitrogen fertilizer to turfgrass in cool temperatures, evaluation of a water harvesting/drip irrigation system for turfgrass irrigation, use of 18O-labeled phosphate as an environmental tracer to determine soil microbial metabolic rates and use of plant growth regulators to decrease the fertilizer requirement of golf course putting greens. Soldat teaches seminars, sessions and webinars for GCSAA.
