2020 Turf Bowl results

Team #44 from Cal Poly Pomona wins 2020 Turf Bowl
Cal Poly Pomona's Team #44 took first place in GCSAA's Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition, presented in partnership with John Deere Golf. It was the first Turf Bowl title in the school's history, and the first team with female team members to win. The winning team includes Phuc Nguyen, Stephen Espinosa, Julissa Gomez and Hailey Taniguchi and advisor Priti Saxena.

Turf Bowl Competition

The Turf Bowl Competition consists of physical and visual identification of samples, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, essay, short answer and matching questions.
Eligibility
To participate in the GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition, students must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

Must be currently enrolled in a turf program or have graduated
at the end of the most recent fall semester but not yet entered a graduate
program.
- Must be an active GCSAA student member
- Be a registered attendee at the GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry

All Turf Bowl participants are encouraged to attend this event to kick off the annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition, presented in partnership with John Deere Golf. Teams will have the opportunity to register for the exam. Teams will sign up to participate in the Turf Bowl exam starting at 5:00 p.m. prior to the start of the reception at 5:30 p.m. The networking reception is for teams, advisors and superintendent mentors.

This breakfast is held the morning of the competition for participants, faculty advisors and volunteers.
GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition

The Turf Bowl exam features a written case study, as well as a wide variety of multiple choice, short answer and identification questions covering the agronomic, business and financial management aspects of the superintendent profession.
This exam is for turf students only in teams of up to four participants. Each participant must be a member of GCSAA, a registered attendee of the Golf Industry Show and register as part of a team on site before the exam or at the Turf Bowl Kick-Off Reception. A total of $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top 10 teams during the Closing Celebration.
