Michael J. Hurdzan, Ph.D., has been a golf course architect for over 40 years. His commonsense approach to golf course design was shaped by his experience as a golf course superintendent and partner in golf course ownership. Hurdzan also holds a doctorate in environmental turfgrass physiology, a graduate degree in turf studies and an undergraduate degree in turfgrass management.
Hurdzan was one of GCSAA’s first seminar presenters and over the years has developed four seminars on topics related to golf course design, construction, IPM and has co-instructed with Norm Hummel on golf greens. He has received GCSAA’s Old Tom Morris Award, President’s Award for Environmental Leadership, and Distinguished Service Award. He is currently working with his son, Christopher M. Hurdzan, Ph.D., in Hurdzan Golf Design LLC.
