Doug Soldat, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the department of soil science. He focuses on turfgrass, urban soils, nutrient management, water resources, and soil testing and landscape irrigation. He has received the following degrees: B.S. soil science, 2001 at the University of Wisconsin; M.S. soil science, 2003 at the University of Wisconsin; and Ph.D. in horticulture, 2006 at Cornell University.
Current research projects include the evaluation of use of biosolids for improving the economics and environmental sustainability of sod production, analysis of the uptake and utilization of fall-applied nitrogen fertilizer to turfgrass in cool temperatures, evaluation of a water harvesting/drip irrigation system for turfgrass irrigation, use of 18O-labeled phosphate as an environmental tracer to determine soil microbial metabolic rates, and use of plant growth regulators to decrease the fertilizer requirement of golf course putting greens.
