Phil Helmn is a Master Greenkeeper (1 of a select few worldwide) and has risen through the greenkeeping ranks. Since leaving college in 1987, when he gained his diploma in sports turf science with honors, he has lived and breathed golf and greenkeeping.

His father was the local golf pro and that greatly influenced Helmn's early career. He has always worked in the propriety-owned golf course world and has gained 30 years valuable experience working with tight budgets and the need to get the best out of all resources available. Helmn has managed large teams on a wide range of soil types both in the U.K. and Europe and has used these experiences to fine tune his mentoring and common-sense management style. When his busy work schedule allows, he continues to supported local colleges by lecturing in sports turf, giving him the opportunity to give back to the industry.

His current role at Goodwood calls upon his management skills to help him lead the various teams responsible for all the sports turf areas on the estate. He oversees two 18-hole golf courses, cricket pitches, motor circuit areas, grass airfields and the extensive grounds and gardens around the historic Goodwood House, set in the idyllic countryside of West Sussex on the beautiful south coastline of the British Isles.

As GM of such a diverse department, Helmn is ideally placed to deliver his session topic. His candid, thought-provoking presentation is aimed at managers of all levels. His techniques will help them realize the need for developing not only core values, which drive teams to deliver high standards, but the necessity to introduce four key foundation pillars required for success.
